Twilight Time
The artwork depicts two donkeys, presumably a mother and her foal, set against a rural landscape. The adult donkey is seen from the side with its head turned to the side, allowing a partial view of its profile. The foal is positioned in front of the adult, facing the viewer, leaning its head between it's mothers ears and appears to be nuzzling or seeking affection from its mother.
Twilight time is the golden hour – when sunlight turns magical. When the Sun is close to the horizon, its light appears warmer and softer. This adorable baby donkey is tired beyond words and finds comfort between mom’s ears as shades of night approaches. He enjoys the shimmering last quality warm rays of the sunset.
The background is composed of a striking natural scene with rolling hills and a rocky terrain that suggests a mountainous area. Above the landscape, the sky is rendered with swirling clouds, some tinged with the orange and pink hues of sunset. The overall painting employs a palette that encompasses a range of earthy tones combined with the subdued blues and warm tones of the sky, creating a serene and somewhat melancholic atmosphere. The brushwork varies from smooth gradients in the sky to more textured strokes that seem to replicate the rough fur of the donkeys and the grassy plains, and the terrain conveys a sense of rustic vastness.
The deepening shadows surrender to the setting sun causing everything to be washed in the blue shades of evening. The donkey’s coats are warmly washed with the soft light of evening. The sun is setting behind the mesas in brilliant blue, purple, orange and yellow hues. And so the evening begins. This is a picture perfect ending to a long day.
The original painting is 40"H x 30"W x 1.5"D on gallery wrap canvas.
